The greatest nicknames for football clubs

The next post will go over some of the quirkiest football team names in world football.

A fairly small football team in the leading division of the Spanish league has just about the most humorous nicknames in world football, but it is a name that the club holds close. Los Pepineros, which translates to ‘the cucumbers’ play in one of the suburban area of Madrid. The suburb was its own town many years ago and it was where a number of the farmers that worked in the district lived and, of course, they chiefly farmed cucumbers. The comical name does not suggest the team itself is any sort of joke, as the Leganés owner would attest, the team has made a significant amount of money since establishing itself in the highly profitable Spanish leading division. The club and the town have come a long way since their cucumber farming days.

Argentina has just about the most well-known international teams, which contains arguably the best professional of all time, but the domestic division is not so well known. There is one hugely competitive derby in the division, but that is not the only appealing thing in the division; one of the teams, which is in La Plata, is known as ‘The Rat Stabbers’. The weird name comes from the fact there is a distinguished medical school in the city where they would test on rats in the past. This name must be the oddest there is, but the team is actually about the most effective and they even have a ground that can hold more people than most premier league teams. The club has won the South American top club competition four times which makes it one of the best teams in Argentina, some thing the Estudiantes de La Plata owner would be exceptionally proud of.

Italian soccer is world today popular, but a number of the names of the clubs are not so well known. One of the most iconic sides to ever play in Italy through the 90’s was also well known as the Rossoneri or Diavolo, the former means the red and blacks, while the latter means The Devil. The first name has quite evident connotations, which is of course from the colors of their home strip. The brand-new AC Milan owner has taken over a side popular for its significant football teams, but also for its legendary soccer strip. The kit, which is akin to the football club logo, is comprised of vertical black and red stripes with white shorts. The top hasn't changed too much over many years, contrary to some other clubs, which has helped to allow it to become so recognisable all around the world. The accomplishments of the club as one of the best football clubs in Europe has helped to circulate the sales of the shirt to each corner of the planet.
